In Germany and Austria today there are signs of the seriousness with which geopathic stress is taken. Not only are the public more generally aware, but their governments funds aid and continuing research in to the matter. In some schools children are moved at frequent intervals to avoid possible harmful effects. Reports from other countries such as Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Scandinavia indicate that they too have been taking notice.

Can These Geopathic Energies be Neutralized?
There are many factors that can contribute to an illness. Geopathic Stress is only one of them and it is becoming more difficult to gauge especially when the natural energy field is constantly changed and amplified by man-made electromagnetic fields. If geopathic stress is suspected, it makes sense to move away from the source or to think about dealing with the threat. Moving may be relatively easy but neutralizing it is fraught with many problems. Claims and counter claims abound regarding devises to achieve this, leaving the public in total confusion. From an incredible range of gadgets offered there are many tales about their ineffectiveness or of making the receiver feel much worse. There are many products on the market that claim to cure some or all geopathic zones of its noxious energy. Most of these claims are quite dubious and do not stand up to the most rudimental scientific testing. Fortunately there are now a growing number of dowsers that are equipped with scientific monitoring instruments that can test such claims.

There’s nothing like snuggling up in a warm bed to make us feel relaxed warm and safe. But the very we go when we feel unwell could actually be making us ill. It’s all down to Geopathic Stress. Geopathic stress - or harmful earth rays - is natural radiation that rises up through the earth and is distorted by weak electromagnetic fields created by underground streams, certain mineral concentrations and fault lines. The wave lengths of the disturbed natural radiation can seriously affect our health, causing cancer, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME) infertility and miscarriage. While we are asleep our body should be resting so it can repair body cells, fight infections and absorb nutrients from food. However, if we sleep in an area affected by geopathic stress, our body has to use all it’s energy just to keep  vital organs going. As a result our immune system becomes weakened, which means it doesn’t absorb nutrients or fight off infections effectively. To locate geopathic stress dowsers visit land, offices and homes where they  seek  the location of underground streams, geological faults or the earth’s natural grid lines. As of yet there is no acceptable scientific explanation for dowsing. However, for thousands of years people from all over the world have been finding underground water for wells and mineral deposits to mine by dowsing methods. Remember it’s the energy from the water and other artefacts that they first respond to as it rises from deep beneath the ground to the surface.

The first studies that proved a link between cancer and geopathic stress were carried out in the early 20th century in Austria and Germany but, so far geopathic stress has been largely ignored in the UK. The phenomenon has been linked to insomnia, migraine, headaches, loss of balance, short -term memory loss, joint pain, cot death, infertility, miscarriages, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME) and cancer. Women are more likely to be at risk from geopathic stress because their hormonal systems are more susceptible. Foresight, the pre-conception care organisation, even suggests that couples trying for a baby should get their homes checked for geopathic stress and ensure that electrical equipment is not located under their beds as this can cause electromagnetic stress and deplete the immune system.
For many of us who fall sick and seek the help of a doctor a few minutes is spent discussing symptoms and lifestyle quickly followed by the doctor scribbling on a proscription pad. It may surprise you therefore, that in many European countries, Germany and Austria in particular, one of  the first questions the doctor may ask is about the  location of your bed and how long have you been sleeping there. These questions are routinely asked not only by several thousand doctors, but also many cancer specialist hospitals will recommend a Geopathic Surveyor or Geobiologist as they are often called to investigate your home before deciding on a course of therapy or reaching for the prescription pad. The search, using both dowsing methods to locate geopathic energies and scientific instruments to detect man made electromagnetic energies will  determine whether your illness is linked to geopathic stress electromagnetic stress or both. Research in to the Biological Influences of Geopathic Locations

Germany has long been the seat of research in to the biological effects that pathogenic locations can have on both human and plant biochemistry. These pathogenic locations defined in the report as, ‘earth radiation's evoked by a discontinuity of the normal physical parameters on the surface of the earth,’ and shortened to ‘Disturbed Zones’ are the subject of the research.
Historic roots of the investigation are built on claims that pathogenic zones exist at certain locations and that sleeping or spending long periods of time above them are linked to cancer, debilitating diseases of the central nervous system, chronic fatigue and general ill health. Such locations have been termed in China and many European countries as either ‘cursed’ or ‘cancer’ houses. The aim of the report is to establish whether these ‘Disturbed Sites’ can produce statistically significant results to support the high degree of topicality the phenomenon is having in both main stream and alternative medical practices. cancer.

The research was conducted by a team of distinguished professors, doctors, engineers, scientists and dowsers. The functioning hypothesis of the research was that geophysical characteristics of the surface of the earth are not uniform and that location dependent influences exist that can have a detrimental effect on both human and plant biochemical systems.
To test this hypothesis the research team used the services of three dowsers known for their expertise in locating earth energies. They were enlisted to independently dowse eight different locations and submit reports and diagrams of the strongest ‘Disturbed Zones’ found, together with a ‘Neutral Zone’ at the same location to enable them to carryout double blind experiments with volunteers at each selected location. The dowsers found that the greatest pathogenic influences came from the movement of Underground streams, Hartmann/ Curry Global Grid lines and Geological Fault Lines.. In order to rule out possible influences of man made electromagnetic or microwave disturbances at each location an independent report from an electromechanical engineer was requested for each chosen site.

The medical biological Investigations at both the ‘Disturbed Zones’ and the ‘Indifferent Zones’ were standardized:
1. Investigations after 15 minuets stay on Indifferent Zone. 
2. Investigations after 15 minutes stay on the ‘Disturbed Zone’. 
3. Investigations again after a further 15 minute stay on an Indifferent Zone.

In some investigations the stay times were extended and included an additional investigation after 5 minuets stay on the ‘Disturbed Zone’
At present, these so called ‘Disturbed Zones’ can only be indicated by dowsers, with its presence being then verified with scientific instrumentation. Technology does not yet exist to do this the other way round; the dowser does not yet appear to be replaceable with scientific instrumentation.
Volunteers were sought to participate in these experiments. As a rule clinically healthy subjects between the ages of 20-35 years were screened. A number of these were rejected when illnesses (circulation interference and infections) were discovered. Other participants were also used from the Outpatients Department for Physical Therapy in the Rehabilitation Centre, Grobming and from the Surgery of Dr. Korinek. The research program was carried out between September 1987 and December 1988. None of the volunteers used were given information about the relative ‘Disturbed Zones’ and ‘Indifferent Zones’
Research Results (Vienna Report)

The Project 
The project involved the testing of 24 different biological parameters involving 985 trial volunteers in 6,943 investigations using 462, 421 individual measurements.
In 12 of these parameters results were significant to highly significant. 
In 5 of the parameters there were tendencies to significance. 
6 parameters proved negative.
17 of the parameters proved positive. However because of the high standard of the research only significant results were accepted.
Decoder Analysis of the Total Bioelectric Status 
This investigation was significant and was carried out on a number of patients from a country medical practice. The stereotypical result on the ‘Disturbed Zone’ was deterioration of the electro-biological functioning in the sense of depression or blockage of bioelectric functions. Three silver electrodes were used placed on the forehead, palms and soles; a microprocessor based unit automatically produced the results.

Heart Frequency Reaction (HFR) 
In these investigations measurements from an electrocardiogram (ECG) were used in both sitting and lying down positions. Three circulation parameters were measured and two further calculated. All measured parameters gave reference to location dependence with the integral rake size for Systolic ventricle work showing significantly different behaviour. This deterioration of the HFR was thought to be due to ‘Location load’ from the ‘Disturbed Zone’. The ECG normalized after leaving the ‘Disturbed Zone’. It was reckoned with over 95 – percentile certainty that there is a location influence on the governing system of the circulation.
Akrale Re-warming Time 
The temperature measurement at the finger tips revealed that after standardized cooling on the ‘Disturbed Zone’ the Rewarming time is delayed significantly.
Optical Flicker Fusion Frequency 
This test measures the psycho sensory capabilities of the person. In the 15 minute time exposure on the ‘Disturbed Zone’ the results remained under the significance barrier. It was thought however, that if the experiment allowed further time exposure the investigation may have achieved a significant result.
Coordinative Vegetative Rhythm 
Passive rhythms such as breath and pulse frequency operate in balanced Coordinative rhythms especially when at rest. The ratios of these vegetative rhythms were tested on both the experimental zones. The Biometric analysis showed that on the ‘Indifferent Zone’ the pulse-breath quotient remained in balance but was significantly affected on the ‘Disturbed Zone’.
Muscle Frequency Analysis 
Significant location variations in the distribution of the muscle action frequencies were found in areas of electric muscle potential. This suggested an interference of the endogenous rhythm created by the ‘Disturbed Zone’
Humorale –Biochemical Parameters 
The three Immunoglobulins that were examined; IgA, IgG, and IgM showed clear reactions on the ‘Disturbed Zones’ that were partly and high significant. The immunoglobulin IgA showed the most significant drop on the ‘Disturbed Zone’. These values however normalized when later blood samples were analyzed after the subjects were tested on the ‘Indifferent Zone’
Calcium and Potassium 
On ‘Disturbed Zones’ potassium levels increased with a rising significance and calcium increased significantly.
Under certain conditions traces of the element zinc increased highly significantly on the ‘Disturbed Zone’
Decreased by a factor of 6 on the ‘Disturbed Zone’ whilst increasing its metabolism to advance Tryptophan in compensation. This reaction was highly significant.
Blood Sedimentation Speed 
Investigations comparing the Blood Corpuscle Decline Speed on the ‘Indifferent Zone’ and the ‘Disturbed Zone’ yielded significantly different behaviour in 452 double investigations in 112 days. Blood sedimentation speed slowed down whilst on the ‘Disturbed Zone’
Conclusion of Report
The ‘Location Effect’ of the ‘Disturbed Zone’ on regulatory systems of the human organism is proved without doubt and raises the question of which substratum, subsystem or system the location dependent powers primarily attack.
The test results were lined up by Biometric Significance and are valued with the Serotonin and the Blood Corpuscle Decline Speed (BSG) in lead position.
Serotonin is diminished on the ‘Disturbed Zone’ and its metabolism advances the tendency for Tryptophan to be increased. The latter can be noted as a compensation process. One of the main functions of Serotonin is to act as a neurotransmitter in the parasympathetic system which controls energy provision.
The research team concluded that there was no evidence to relate ‘Location Load’ to a specific illness but should be rather determined as a risk factor that can reinforce the effect of different pathogenic factors. ‘Location Load’ as a result of spending time above a ‘Disturbed Zone’ belongs to other similar risk factors such as;

The term ‘Location Load’ is synonymous to ‘Geopathic Stress’ which more generally describes the phenomenon in both Great Britain and the United States.

Already since thousands of years, the existence of specific locations where people do not sleep well, get sick more easily, or where performance is lower has been empirically known (e.g., 1-3). Dowsers and geobiologists have termed such zones as “water veins” or “earth rays“. However, these terms are misleading and technically incorrect. In recent years, the expressions “geopathic stress” and “geopathic interference zones” have been accepted internationally to describe the phenomenon.
Only rudimental evidence is available today, if such zones could be measured using accepted physical apparatus. Our knowledge on the geophysical reasons for geopathy is also very limited. It is clear that the phenomenon is composed by combinations of different causes. At present, for most aspects contained herein, only hypotheses can be formed - and there are many of them. Most explanations tried concentrate on the existence of natural electromagnetic fields (EMFs) present at particular locations, “interfering” with the organisms. Many “specialists” presume that the origin to be in the ground – below the earth surface. Frequencies in between about 0,1 Hz up to the GHz-range are being suggested in public literature.
One of the reasons why an incontrovertible physical measurement of the assumedly existing electromagnetic fields appears to be impossible at present could be that these are very variable, broad-banded and at the same time only present in very low power strengths, “hidden” in the surrounding electromagnetic noise. An apparatus able to discriminate such low energy broadband EMFs from noise apparently is not yet available. A recent technological innovation can now aid us in this quest, allowing a sophisticated physical measurability of deviations of the earth's magnetic field: the SQUID–technology. With Super-Conducting Quantum Interference Devices (SQUID), it is possible to quantify variations of one ten billionth [American English] of the earth's magnetic field. This highly sensitive technology is being used successfully in medical science (e.g. optical cardio-magnetometry), in detecting material defects and cracks in aircraft parts, in archaeology, and for tracing natural resources (e.g., 4).

One can assume that there are many origins for the effects of different locations on humans, animals and plants. Surely it’s not one, single, definite kind of “radiation”. In addition to the discussed weak, broadband transversal electromagnetic and magnetic fields assumed to be originated in the ground, other forms of “energies” might exist, such as the often controversially discussed longitudinal scalar waves (5). Various possibilities of combinations are imaginable. Overlapping, or a “build up” of resonance effects are also part of the geopathic phenomenon. Furthermore, technically generated EMFs are present on every place on earth; their likely influence on our health is presently the subject of intensive worldwide research. The so called “space weather” (including „Schumann-fields“) also plays a role (6). In our following attempts at explanation, we will concentrate on natural sources possibly originating from the “ground”, i.e. the very outer skin or our earth.
2.1. Electromagnetic fields “from the ground“: stringy waterways
Low energy, broad-banded and dynamically changing EMFs, creating resonance with structures of the human organism, may well be part of the geopathy phenomenon. Both, technical and biological systems can be influenced by EMFs, whereby numerous questions are still open, such as the concerning limits and the nature of physical interference fields (5). There is growing experimental evidence that EMFs - at least those of technical origin – can have significant effects on cells and the entire organism. Unwanted effects include, for example, serious damage of the genome (including field-induced DNA strand breaks) (7-12), suppression of the immune system (Hacker et al., unpublished), and adverse effects on proliferation and apoptosis, e.g. of neurons and neuro-endocrine cells (13).
But where in the ground could sources of natural EMFs exist? Physically well explainable, such fields could be induced by specific metallic ions and /or metal particles contained in water, flowing in streams or, most often, in so called “stringy waterways” through the pervious and anisotropic rubble-/gravel-/sand-/soil-body of the natural ground (Fig. 1). Certain ions and metals moved by water can – depending on concentration, composition and flow rate – can indeed lead to geoelectricity.

In addition, the dipolar nature of H2O-molecules can also be part of the origin of such fields. As an extremely dielectric medium, water favors the formation of potential vortices, which immediately after their formation contract swiftly. If you turn a water molecule with its electric charge distribution, then from the moving charge a magnetic field results. If thus in a pipe a hydrodynamic flow vortex is produced, an electric and a magnetic vortex, the potential vortex and the eddy current, are the result (5).
2.2. Piezoelectricity
Piezoelectricity is the ability of certain crystals and certain ceramic materials to generate electrical and magnetic signals in response to applied mechanical stress. In nature, piezoelectrical dischargings can occur in some areas of geological “warps” containing quartz sand particles, and may be another plausible cause of geopathic stress effects (14). The effect was already discovered in 1824 by David Brewster and then experimentally elaborated by Pierre and Jacques Curie in 1880. Although also present in tourmaline, topaz, cane sugar and Rochelle salt (sodium potassium tartrate tetrahydrate), the effect became particularly known for quartz. With a proportion of 12 % of the upper earth’s crust, quartz is the most frequent mineral after feldspar.
Inside an ideal quartz crystal, the electrical charge of the elements silicon and oxygen cancel each other out. When a crystal lattice cell is compressed by mechanical pressure, an imbalance is the result, manifesting itself in the development of a tiny electrical voltage (Fig. 2). Vice versa, quartz can be triggered to oscillate by applying a voltage to it (“quartz oscillator crystal“; in use for example in crystal controlled clocks).
Another well known use of piezoelectricity is found in lighters using piezoelectric ignition: There, sudden mechanical pressure onto a synthetic quartz crystal block (containing high amounts of exactly aligned synthetic lattice crystal cells) leads to the generation of high voltage. The resulting spark is able to ignite the burnable gas. It is understandable therefore that sudden or variable heavy mechanical pressure on a great many of quartz crystal particles, as continuously present in many places of our earth skin, is able to create discharges of remarkable size (see also:

2.3. Scalar waves
Another aspect of the geopathy phenomenon, which appears to be largely underestimated in its importance, could be found in the presence of “longitudinal scalar waves” (5). Those are directed waves spreading into the direction of a field vector. The scalar wave is carried by scalar particles or field vortexes. In the case of plasma waves, they are charged particles, and in the case of sound waves, they are air particles. E.T. Whittaker already in 1904 showed mathematically that the known and accepted Laplace Wave Equation of the year 1787, besides indicating transversal electro-magnetic waves, also describes longitudinal scalar waves (15).
The existence of longitudinal wave proportions, as also present in the near field of a dipol antenna, could already be shown experimentally by Nikola Tesla (1856-1943) (16-16). In spite of the fact that scalar waves in the field theory of Maxwell are usually neglected and set to zero, numerous experiments can lead to the conclusion that they do really exist and influence the human organism (5). According to Professor Konstantin Meyl (Furtwangen University, Germany), to a measurement technician scalar waves experimentally manifest as (antenna-)noise, a mixture of frequencies and wavelengths. They interact with an appropriate partner or medium by going into resonance. In the case of resonance, both sources attract each other, which can be explained and calculated by the occurrence of field changes during that process (5).
2.4. Natural radioactivity
As a matter of course, natural radioactivity also plays a role in the geopathy phenomenon: often it exists in areas with a lot of granite and gneiss, and in zones where radon gas is present (e.g. thermal springs etc.). However, an extensive discussion of the origin and effects of radioactivity from the ground would go far beyond the scope of this manuscript.
3.1. Physical Interactions and Resonance

To influence an organism, an extrinsic energy source has to come into interaction with the body, organs, cells, cell organelles and/or molecules in some way or another. The presence of pure physical interactions and in addition also of “physiologic sensors” located inside the body can be assumed. Below we will go into detail on their possible interactive nature.
Physically, for instance, we could point to a reciprocal build up by resonance. To be more precise, from outside, we have “extrinsic” (external) field sources (e.g. those from the ground). Inside our body, there are the “intrinsic” (internal) structures and molecules of the organism, which are either “resonating” because of their physical nature (as with stringed instruments: compare the vibration of the string alone versus string with resonator sound box), or create a certain frequency themselves. Examples for the latter are the physiological “pace making” of the heart muscle, or that of the central nervous system (e.g., the 10 Hz-clocking of brain waves).
Water does play an important role in physiological functionality of the organism and therefore also in the context to geopathy: The above discussed amplitude vibrations of the electrically charged potential vortextes associated to the dielectric water molecules very likely enable resonance of bodily / cellular water with different external fields. Physical resonance is defined as a synchronization of two sources which vibrate with the same pulse frequency but with contrary polarity. In the case of resonance, information is being exchanged, energies are transmitted and, in fact, a component of balance between the sources is being formed (from personal communication, A. Schrodt, 2006).
3.2. Physiologic and Biochemical Sensors
Besides the role of water inside the body, and with the understanding that the human head contains 70% water (care: not “simple” H2O is meant here; it is a kind of “structured water” of a colloid nature), some kind of “receptors” or “antennas” in our bodies must be present, reacting to geopathic fields. Of the numerous possibilities, only some examples shall be mentioned here.
Proteins and most other bio-molecules are not at all “nonrigid” structures; in order to fulfill their functions, they possess the ability to dynamically change their shapes within certain limits. Internal protein dynamics can potentially affect protein function through a variety of mechanisms, some of which are tautological or obvious in nature while others are subtle and remain to be fully explored and appreciated (18). Certain processes of proteins as parts of their 3-D conformation have the ability to oscillate or rotate. Such only a few nanometers sized processes have been discussed as possible sites of resonance induced by external EMFs, acting as “protein-antennas” (19). When experimentally irradiated by EMFs of frequencies in between about 1-2 GHz, they displayed a changing of conformation, respectively changing in their manner of oscillation, even when only very low field strengths had been applied (19).
Huge amounts of very tiny magnetic crystals (magnetite crystals) have been found in the brain, and these could react very sensitively to the slightest changes in magnetic fields (20). Black dots on magnetic resonance imaging pictures (MRI) of human brain tissue led researches to the idea that these could be magnetic particles. From post mortem brains, magnetite crystals of a size of 50 nm could be isolated, and their magnetic field could be measured. The research was done in a special laboratory room that was completely shielded from the natural magnetic field of the earth by tons of steel. Actual measurements were carried out using a SQUID-System. The magnetite-particles could also be visualized and further analyzed using a high-definition transmission electron microscope. The most exciting result of those experiments was that, most of the regions of the brain appear to contain about five million biogenous “single-domain” magnetite crystals per gram wet weight on average, and the meninges (pia and dura mater) contain even more than 100 million.
The meaning of those magnetic crystals, however, is largely unexplained yet. Evidence that these microscopically small magnetite particles would function for some kind of sensory perception in humans could not yet been confirmed. However, speculations are that the presence of magnetite crystals in brain might be understood as proof of a “submerged magnetic sensor”, similar to that of carrier pigeons or whales, theoretically easing human orientation and direction – thus a kind of “relict of evolution”. But, if it would really be a relict, those particles would not exist in such a high quantity anymore. Magnetic particles in the brain could turn out to be one of the reasons why dowsing can work. In any case, magnetite crystals in the brain could possibly be a hint to explain how (certain qualities of) geopathic zones may affect the body: Magnetite reacts more than one million times stronger to an external magnetic field than every other biological material. Recently, in the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, an article describes possible roles that magnetic ferrous amalgamations could play in neurological disease (21).
When analyzing possible effector sites of fields from natural and/or technical origin, it appears likely that cell membranes may also play a role. It has been experimentally shown that already relatively low field strengths of low frequency, as well as high frequency electro/magnetic fields can lead to changes or disturbances of information transfer at the ion channels of cell membranes (22-23).
Even though in today's popular media, pseudo-scientific and quasi-medical reports on the topic of geopathy are presented to the public, no “peer reviewed” medical journal indexed in MedLine had published statistically firm and sound provable evidence of geopathic effects on humans until most recently. Previously described effects and descriptions of the pioneers (1, 3 and others) in this area unfortunately aren’t available in the standardized, scientifically acceptable nor reproducible format required for peer-reviewed medical journals, but rather as monographs. Nevertheless, this doesn’t lower their importance and relevance: Those pioneers in research on the geopathy phenomenon neither had the scientific-medical verifiability methods that are available today, nor was the time mature for such publications in the kind of medical journals we know today. Nonetheless, what these people achieved, and their courage, as well as of the publishers who rightly published their works, deserve high credits.
Our first concepts how to address the geopathy phenomenon were based on the descriptions and personal discussions with the late Otto Bergsmann († 2004) and Alois Stacher (medical doctors, both from Vienna, Austria) and carried out in close co-operation with Adolf Wiebecke and his team (Salzburg and Oberalm, Austria). Because of the lack of “direct” physical measurement techniques for the doubtlessly existing „energy fields” at least partly originating in the ground, we decided to use the human body as an indicator. In our first approaches, we utilized methods from complementary medicine (bio-resonance, kinesiology, heart-rate variability, etc.). Although successful in some areas addressed, the effects found had not the high statistical significance required, and the methodology used was not a generally accepted one, guaranteeing medical relevance and reproducibility.
4.1. The GDV System and its Use in Measuring Geopathic Influences
A few years ago, we came across the gas discharge visualization (GDV) technology. Being fascinated by its highly sensitive ability to detect stress effects, and also by the fact that this method is being used world-widely for manifold applications combining “pure physics” with complimentary evaluation of apparently high accuracy, we could reproducibly show using this method that different zones above ground do exhibit different effects on the human organism. The associated manuscript went through a thorough peer-reviewing process and was published in the renowned professional journal „Forschende Komplementärmedizin” (Research in Complementary Medicine; (24).
The GDV-method Prof. Konstantin Korotkov (National Technical University of St. Petersburg, Russia), as used in that work, delivers a number of sensitive and reproducible parameters (25-46). For us, the mean “area-of-glow” was the best possible means for sensitively indicate stress. Furthermore, one can acquire “corona diagrams” in the manner of complementary medicine from the individual allocation of the “corona” gas discharge from the different fingertips, following the principles of the energy–meridian theory and of acupuncture. Using that particular aspect, we were able to indicate which organ systems of the body might be affected by geopathic stress. The accordant calculations and projections were done interactively using specific software for analysis, based on the energy-emission-analysis according to Mandel (47-48), the Su-Jok-System of acupuncture (49) and clinical data of thousands of test persons from the St. Petersburg institute of Prof. Korotkov.
4.1.1. Is GDV a Reliable Instrument for Measuring Stress?
The question may arise if it is really justified to use GDV for stress measurements. In addition to the promising data presented in numerous publications before, including our own, we are presently in the middle of an evaluation targeting a validation of GDV mean area-of-glow as a reliable measure of certain aspects of stress. Although not yet completed, our tests appear to show that this is indeed the case: Parallel measurements of the diurnal time courses of GDV mean area of glow and of biochemical parameters collected from saliva (50-53) indicate that the diurnal curve progressions of GDV image areas and the levels of immunoglobulin A (IgA) go parallel, whilst another accepted parameter of stress, saliva alpha-amylase, progresses just the opposite to IgA and GDV. In other words, a higher GDV mean area of glow value corresponds to a higher IgA level (to be understood as an sign for lower stress or relaxation), and a lower GDV mean area of glow value can be understood as an indication for higher levels of alpha-amylase, i.e. for higher stress. A third marker, saliva cortisol, although displaying its very own rhythmicity, also appears to fit into the concept that GDV could be reliably used for biophysical stress measurement (Hacker and Augner, unpublished results).
4.1.2. Specific GDV Setup Used for Measuring Geopathic Stress
For detection geopathic stress, we have followed the design of a randomized, double-blinded non-clinical trial (54-44), following the ethical guidelines of the expanded Helsinki Declaration (56). All test persons had been informed about the GDV system and related safety issues, and about the fact that they may feel a slight “crawling” in their finger tips. Fifty-two voluntary test persons were measured at two locations, one of which has been identified by a group of six distinguished dowsers as being a “geopathic zone” and the other a “neutral zone”. All persons were tested with and without the “Wave” device invented by Adolf Wiebecke (Oberalm / Salzburg, Austria; The exact test design, as well as the way how dowsers independently labeled the different zones in the laboratory test room, have been described in detail (24). Altogether, more than 137,000 individual fingertip GDV corona images were captured, interpreted by means of computer-aided image analysis and analyzed in detail using bio-statistics.
          A GDV Camera Pro (, specifically designed for high stability and reproducibility as required for scientific measurements, had been applied. In practice, to capture one “static GDV image”, a very stable high voltage (10 kV, 1.024 Hz, square pulses) is pulsed on and off every 10 ms for a duration of 0,5 s. The electric field produces a visible gas discharge glow around the fingertip (Kirlian image), and such corona discharges have been recorded from each of the 10 fingertips of the test person repeatedly. The GDV Camera Pro was connected to a notebook computer, and the recorded glow images were digitally transferred using GDV Capture software (at that time, we used version 1.9.9. from 2004). For further calculations and analyses, the GDV Meridian Analysis and the GDV Diagram software (both with version no. 1.9.9.), and the GDV Scientific Laboratory software (version 1.1.5.) were applied.
During the experiments, the complete GDV system was mounted on a trolley, in order to measure the effects of the two different zones in the laboratory room directly “on site” without moving the test person to another place. For each test person and test phase, 50 single static measurements were performed (each finger tip was measured 5 times for 0,5 s). In addition, we have recorded dynamic GDV images from both ring fingers, repeated 3 times during each test period. In the specific setup for the static GDV images used in our study, the overall GDV image area values calculated are to be understood as mean values of 50 single finger GDV images in total, per test period. In randomized manner, four test phases were examined: “Geopathic zone” with and without a blindly mounted “Wave” device, and “neutral zone” with and without the “Wave”. The latter device had been mounted or de-mounted in another room at an upper floor, and neither the test persons nor the examiners could see if the device was present or not. In order to minimize chronobiologic influences to a sensible degree, the experiments were carried out only in forenoons, and also in that respect, phase randomization in time was an important prerequisite (24).
4.1.3. Safety and Reproducibility Issues
To gain reliable data, we paid careful attention to a number of issues influencing stability, reproducibility and safety (24, 30, 37, 45): Throughout the whole study, the very same GDV system was used. Before use, the GDV camera (kept inside the laboratory at constant room temperature) was switched on at least 30 minutes prior to measurement, and careful calibrations were performed. Each test person was asked to thoroughly wash their hands using a pH neutral laboratory soap (without re-fattening properties), followed by wiping the fingertips with alcohol. It was not allowed to use hand cream or lotion. The glass plate surface of the GDV camera was cleaned using alcohol frequently, and it was taken care that none of the test persons had wet hands. The test persons were advised to keep their fingers still and relaxed during measurements and not to apply undue pressure when putting their fingers onto the glass plate at an angle of approximately 30-degrees to the instrument axis (28).
4.1.4. Biomedical Statistics
Raw data from the GDV image glow area and fractionality were additionally analyzed by the software programs Sigma-Plot 2002 (Systat; San Jose, CA, USA) and Excel 2003 (Microsoft; Redmond, WA, USA). In addition to the calculation of descriptive data (mean, median, standard deviation etc.), we carried out Gaussian normality tests and subsequently used the paired two-sample t-test for dependent variables to determine whether there are significant differences between the 4 experimental sub-period results. Two-sided p-values were classified statistically significant if they were < 0,01. A number of further statistical analyses were performed, also including distribution-independent tests.
4.1.5. Additional Precautions
As overlaying technical fields possibly influencing the results may have been present, we used sophisticated calibrated equipment to scan and record low and high frequency EMFs, potential acoustic noxae or vibrations during the whole study period, as well as a variety of additional physical parameters. The two measurement areas in the laboratory used for the experiments turned out to be indistinguishable from the aspect of technical fields and acoustic background noise, and the field strength and loudness levels present were far below existing (safety) guidelines.
4.2. Results of GDV Measurements for Geopathic Influence
A distinct location dependency was found: On the area dowsed as a possible “geopathic zone“, significantly lower values of the “area-of-glow” parameter were found than those obtained from the “neutral zone” (p < 0,0001). At the “neutral zone”, the mean static GDV glow area was 10.152 pixels (SEM: 190), whereas the corona image areas obtained from the “geopathic zone” were smaller (mean: 0.354 pixels; SEM: 170). From the results of our studies it can be concluded that geopathic zones do cause stress in nearly all of the persons tested.
          When the “Wave” device was mounted, both locations yielded much larger GDV glow image areas: The more “neutral zone” gave a mean value of 11.792 pixels (SEM: 169), and the “geopathic zone” yielded 11.393 pixels (SEM: 160). Statistical significance again was enormously high (p < 0,0001) when compared to the results on those zones without the “Wave” device (24). Thus, the “Wave” device appears was able to de-stress / balance / harmonize energy in nearly all test persons, at the geopathic and also at more neutral zone tested in our laboratory.
Further analyses were carried out for complementary medical parameters included in the GDV software package. We calculated corona projections (“energy field”) (Fig. 3), whole body corona diagrams, and circular corona diagrams (Fig. 4). The corona diagrams directed into a weakening of the energies of the immune system and the pineal organ (which might be understood as an indication of possible changes of the melatonin production) (compare to: 57-60), the cardiovascular and the urinary system in many of the test persons.

Stress is known to adversely affect health as soon as it is present for longer periods (e.g., 61-65). Our study has shown that certain areas above the ground can indeed induce stress. Such zones might cause distress (“malignant stress”) even when present for a short time, but there are also reports that (not scientifically proven) energetically stimulating zones (“positive energy zones”) might exist, often also referred to as “power places”. Such areas have been dowsed within some churches and other buildings constructed centuries or often thousands of years ago. “Positive stress” (eustress) under certain circumstances is a “wanted” bodily reaction, as it can stimulate us to best possible performance. If present for a prolonged time, however, eustress may soon turn to distress and thereby suppress the immune system.
Because of the energetic weakening of the immune and other bodily systems detected in our study, it appears highly likely that in some individuals, the development of various diseases is eased when people again and again stay for longer times at geopathic zones (e.g., if present at their sleeping area, or at the area where their working chair is usually placed). Effects on general health, healing processes (e.g. in hospitals or convalescent homes), on sleeping quality, and (according to unpublished results of a pre-study carried out by us in a home for behavioral conspicuous children) also on interpersonal relationships, especially with partners (e.g. aggression), and also performance at work are possible consequences of location-dependent stress. The “Wave” device investigated in our study could therefore, by its balancing effect, not only aid in lowering of stress, but also be understood as a tool for disease prevention.
Those people who are already in the beginning stages of poor health may sense an added sensitivity for diseases of different kinds when staying longer on geopathic locations, as well as notice that healing processes may take longer than usual. In later stages, it my not be impossible though that chronic stress caused by geopathic locations may finally even forward the development of malignant disease.
5.1. Conventional Measures to Reduce Geopathic Stress
5.1.1. Constructional Possibilities
A number of effective actions can be taken to keep one's body healthy and vital. Concerning geopathy, first of all, constructional adjustments are to be considered. During the planning stage in construction of new buildings, the geopathy phenomenon should be taken into account, so as to consciously design and construct buildings and rooms in a manner that, in areas where people will stay for longer periods of time, geopathic exposure should be as low as possible. Within existing rooms, often a relatively little adjustment of beds and often used seats may contribute to better living quality and health (bedrooms / beds, offices / desk seats, living rooms / television seating; hospitals / sickrooms, surgical theaters, etc.).
As there are no reliable measuring instruments available so far, presently it makes sense to take advice from an experienced dowser. However, according to the Munich barn-experiments (66-68) and other independent investigations, only a low percentage of the people claiming to be successful dowsers are actually capable of making reproducible and reliable conclusions. Therefore it makes sense to consult with a competent building environment engineer who has experience, skill and expertise in these matters.
If constructional arrangements are not possible before erecting a building or before starting a reconstruction, which is supposedly the case in most instances, there are also other practical possibilities: provided that there is a will to do so, it should be possible to move beds or desk seats, in order to get them out of interference zones. This is still the cheapest and a rather efficient action at the same time.
5.1.2. Stress Prevention
Everyone can do something to prevent negative influences by sources that cause stress: anything that lowers stress in general also helps one deal with specific stress factors, and zones, from any origin. This includes methods of stress-management and relaxation techniques, such as meditation, tai chi, guided imaginative journeying, and also certain hypnotherapeutic approaches (69-73). Likewise, prayer and spiritual practices can lead to inner harmony. Mental components are just as important: the more someone lives consciously, and even optimistically, in a state of positive thought, the less external stress factors can influence the person somatically.
Furthermore, many studies confirm that people who are “living healthily” – who manage their weight, refrain from smoking, enjoy the outdoors, participate in sports, etc., - have stronger immune systems and feel definitely less stress than their “unhealthy living” fellow men. A decisive component in this healthy lifestyle is, to what extent and type of nutrition one follows: concentrating on organically derived foods, lots of vegetables, fruit, and fish, less meat, paying attention to one’s weight, as well as including periodic “purification” and/or fasting times, are some of the factors that lead to staying healthy and dealing more consciously with the environment. Interestingly, these positive lifestyle choices may also show up indirectly and in the subconscious: even technically derived EMFs seem to have much less of a negative effect with people who prefer such an “aware” way of life.
5.1.3. The “Wave” of A. Wiebecke
For those who cannot (or do not want to) adopt many of the above mentioned choices, due to illness, age, or some other reasons, things could become more difficult. In our study we could scientifically show that the “Wave” device of A. Wiebecke has a harmonizing effect on the human organism. Other claimed “devices for suppression of earth rays / water veins” have, to our knowledge, not yet been tested scientifically; at least, no indexed and peer-reviewed publication cited in MedLine could be found so far. Concerning the “Wave” device especially interesting is the fact, that it substantially reduces stress in people on “neutral zones” too, a finding which indicates that there is no real “neutral zone” existing. We would therefore suggest using a terminology towards a “more geopathic” and “geologically more neutral” zone in this context. As already stated above, technical fields and noxae [nocent influences] of different kinds are present everywhere on earth. As we could show, the “Wave” device in fact can help, and its exceptional promise as a preventive measure is of great interest.
5.2. Relevance for Everyday Life
Our studies show that it does matter on which location you stay for a longer period of time. Para-scientific reports about sleeplessness or higher rates of occurrence of different diseases have been with us for many years. It is clear that the accumulation of different factors stress can have strong effects on humans, animals and even plants. Possibilities to minimize the effects of geopathy on our organism in general have already been discussed above. In the following, we will briefly show what addressing geopathy do affect health care facilities, public places, and economy.
5.2.1. Relevance for Healthcare Facilities
What is the relevance of our findings for hospitals, convalescent homes and rehabilitation centers? In hospitals, observant physicians and nurses sometimes know from experience that there appear to be locations of sickbeds where, remarkably, many patients have a delayed recovery, or in especially blatant cases they may not recover at all. However, it is often not possible to move beds in hospital rooms. Thus, for this practical reason it may be worth considering installing a device that has a balancing effect here. Experiences of several years at the Salzburg University Clinics (at the Salzburg St. Johanns-Hospital, so far, more than 50 “Wave” devices have been installed to harmonize critical locations - especially in the intensive care unit and in the entire surgical ward), and at other major hospitals (e.g. in Vienna and Innsbruck, Austria; Aachen, Germany; Chur, Switzerland) seem to show positively influence healing and aggressiveness; a thorough study, done according to appropriate scientific criteria, is not available yet.
5.2.2. Relevance for Wellness-Centers
The term “wellness“, which is composed of the ideals “well-being“ and “fitness“ as well as “life-style“ and “happiness“, to a modern point of view denotes a holistic concept of health. Wellness enhancing methods and applications aim to increase physical, psychological and spiritual well-being. An essential component is the so called “stress management“. The results of our research are of great relevance for “wellness-centers” too: sustainable success in relaxation and stress management methods is essentially dependent upon the particular location of sleeping and of therapy beds. Such facilities, therefore, should be planned and managed very consciously: When there are known interference zones of geopathic origin (and/or of technical origin too), very soon this would have financial effects, because customers sharing “word of mouth” will tell everybody that the stay only was of moderate or no profit to them. Thus, especially in already existing establishments, the purposeful placement of “Wave” devices can be of great benefit.
5.2.3. Relevance for public buildings
In a pilot study (unpublished findings), we have found indications of more aggressive behavior by children living or working on geopathic locations. “Wave” devices were installed and de-installed in randomized and blinded manner, and the result was a distinct dilution of undesirable behavior patterns. One of the tests, taken in a care center for children displaying behavioral problems, additionally showed, among other changes, that the incidence of bedwetting [nocturnal enuresis] definitely decreased when the “Wave” was present, and that the learning ability and the quality of sleep changed for the better (unpublished findings). Also, there were remarkable improvements in interpersonal relationships. By inference, if these results are applied to public facilities in general, the “Wave” could probably have a number of desirable effects in schools, offices, banks, supermarkets, etc. Very favorable positive field reports already exist, e.g. at Salzburg airport, several major banks, editorial offices and shopping malls.
5.2.4. Relevance for Competitive Sports
Very impressive results are also to be found in highly competitive sports. The motto, “winners slept better!” is of specific relevance in this area. A serious athlete who doesn’t sleep well before a competition is far from being as able-bodied as someone who has had “a good night's rest”. Individual beds, free from stress-causing zones, are enormously important. But unfortunately, usually the athlete cannot choose in which room or bed she/he will spend the night. Again this means that, the installation of “Waves” by the affected sports clubs and hotels would help to create a more just / equal base level for each sportsman. Alternatively, an athlete could conceivably bring along a “Wave” and use it in her/his bedroom – and this would help the entire team.
5.2.5. Commercial Relevance
Naturally, the negative effects of geopathic stress zones also have considerable commercial impact. Individual performance on “interference reduced” zones increases, and all sides - superintendents, managers and employees - would possibly benefit. When individuals feel better, they will perform better, and be healthier and happier at work too – facts that would also have economic consequences. The number of staff on sick leave will probably decrease in the long run, when all employees work at geopathically (and otherwise also) more balanced work places. Contrarily, at “highly burdened” workplaces, performance will decrease, discontentment grows, and the vulnerability to diseases and the resulting rise of employees' illnesses will be greater. The aggregate economic success of a company or institution can very well be in the balance; responsible (and visionary) managers should take heed of the results of our studies in their plans and act accordingly. In the workplace and in the home: this is only part of the whole picture, because “ready to go” or rested and productive employers and employees should also be able to benefit at peace and harmony at home.
The follow-up costs associated with longer “chronic” stays on geopathic interference zones are probably enormous: As said before, geopathy is a matter of “burdened work places” leading to decreased ability of the employees to concentrate and to increased probability of employees' illnesses. This can produce enormous costs for our social and health systems, and the hidden costs we can only suspect today.

6. Further Studies / the Future
So far, the present scientific evidence of effects of geopathic zones on humans has been mainly found using complementary medical methods, with the exception of the GDV “area-of-glow” parameter. As preliminarily presented in this book, we have already obtained data underlining the validity of GSV as a reliable instrument for measuring stress, provided that all pre-cautions are taken into account and that well-trained and experienced persons use it. Parameters measured in saliva in parallel to GDV, such as IgA, alpha-amylase and cortisol, appear to change in level in direct relationship to the GDV mean area of glow. Soon, we shall have completed those experiments testing a number of test persons sufficiently high for good-practice statistical examination.
At the same time, we have already started experiments above different geological zones to test such key parameters contained in saliva, using biochemical assaying well accepted by orthodox medicine: various hormones, neuropeptides and immunological relevant substances are going to be tested ”non-invasively”.
Long-term studies are being planned too, which, as randomized double-blinded trials, would also include sleeping behavior testing and examining abilities to concentrate / perform at work. However, this will only be feasible if innovative and generous sponsors are found. We also hope that our team will encourage many other study groups to start working on scientifically well founded studies in this field “on the boundary” with pertinent and verifiable investigations from the medical, psychological (industrial psychology in particular) and commercial/financial fields.©




Geopathic Stress:    Is the result of spending long periods working or sleeping above any building or place where the natural energy of the Earth is disturbed by weak electromagnetic fields created by underground streams, certain mineral concentrations, fault lines and cavities.  Some early symptoms often experienced above these geopathic zones are related to restlessness, headaches, insomnia and fatigue. If you continue to stay in these areas especially during sleep, then in the long term the stresses on our bodies will emerge as more serious conditions such as, diseases of the central nervous system, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), miscarriages, and cancer. While we are asleep our body should be resting so it can repair body cells, fight infections and absorb nutrients from food. However, if we sleep in an area affected by geopathic stress, our body has to use all its energy just to keep its vital organs going. As a result our immune system becomes weakened, which means it has difficulty in absorbing nutrients or fighting off infections as efficiently as it should.

Empiric knowledge of the existence of geopathic zones ('water veins' etc) is probably as old as humankind. It has often been tried to experimentally detect direct influences on the body. However, so far, there have been no publications in accepted biomedical journals. The target of this study was to verify influences of 2 different zones above ground on the human body and to test a device for which pilot studies have indicated a potential harmonizing effect in this context. Using a randomized, non-clinical, double-blinded trial design, 52 persons were tested with a gas discharge visualization (GDV) system whilst staying on 2 zones with or without the Geowave device (Geowave-Research, Salzburg, Austria). The 2 zones investigated had been dowsed by experienced professional dowsers and labeled with black dots in a non-persuasive manner, thereby blindly representing areas of geopathy or more neutral zones. The main analytical parameter was the GDV glow image area (area of glow). Complementary calculated parameters were spatial fractality, corona projections and corona diagrams. In the geopathic zone, the detected areas of glow were statistically significantly smaller than in the more neutral zone. With the Geowave blindly mounted in an adjacent room of the above story, a marked increase of the glow image area was found in both zones. The corona projections showed well-recognizable points of body energy deficits in the geopathic zone, mostly associated with the lymphatic system, the cardiovascular system and the pineal gland, which were -- to a distinctly lesser degree -- also present in the more neutral zone. The device tested yielded compensation or harmonization in both zones in most of the test persons. The significant differences in the physical area of glow parameter, which were also noticed for the complementary parameters analyzed, lead to the conclusion that the 2 different zones within the same room (geopathic vs. more neutral zone) exerted different influences on the human body, which may have caused a geopathic stress phenomenon. As a result, individually different retardation of the immune system and other organs may occur. The device tested in both zones showed harmonizing effects, which may help to compensate some influences of geopathy and possibility also superimposed stressors derived from certain other sources, such as technical electromagnetic fields.



The influence of geopathic zones on the human body has not

yet been proven by scientifically accepted techniques. The ex-

istence of the phenomenon has been known for a few thou-

sand years, maybe even since the early roots of humankind.

Publications presenting scientific evidence of directly measur-

able effects of presumed geopathic zones on the human body

are very rare, but numerous harmful and sometimes beneficial

effects have been reported in ‘public’ literature [1–6]. Dows-

ing, a valuable and low-cost way of detecting potential wells

and circumventing effects of possible geopathy, e.g. in bed-

rooms, is being used all over the world. However, only few

studies exist dealing with the abilities of dowsers in a scientific

way. The ‘Munich Barn Experiments’ and extensive field stud-

ies on the dowsing phenomenon conducted by an interdiscipli-

nary research team during the 1980’s and 1990’s still is consid-

ered the current state of the art as regards the usability of

dowsing for finding water access [7–11]. Possible influences at-

tributed to geopathy phenomena have been widely reported

by the mass media, albeit without scientific proof. Apparently,

geopathy does not only influence humans but all kinds of ani-

mals, plants, fungi and bacteria. Geopathic stress is thought to

be related to different kinds of natural radiation, at least in

part rising up from the ground. Some of the effects appear to

be associated with naturally occurring streams of underground

water and with bands of interference fields on the surface.

Most likely, there also are other, so far unknown causes. It is

beyond the scope of this article to explain, measure and prove

their origin. Even amongst geologists and biophysicists, views

differ on this extremely complex subject.

The idea of stress as a factor of ill health is now widely accept-

ed, and numerous effects of stress on the body are well docu-

mented [41–44]. Geopathic stress as a causal link to disease is

usually ignored, as many people are unaware of its presence.

Most texts available, being popular descriptions in books,

journals or the Internet or the relatively rare literature ad-

dressing the matter scientifically, discuss geopathic stress as a

complex phenomenon composed of weak electromagnetic

fields of different wavelengths (ranging from very low fre-

quencies of <1 Hz to the upper GHz-region), manifold wave-

forms and amplitudes expressing dynamic changes. Timely

composition of electromagnetic field variations may play a

major role. Other types of radiation are likely to contribute,

and it seems possible that some of them have not yet been dis-

covered. Part of the technical problem of measuring geopathic

zones with scientific instrumentation is that the high level of

background interference from other sources appears to mask

and prevent an electronic detection of the very weak interfer-

ence signals associated with geopathic stress. Interference and

resonance effects with the human body could be critical trig-

gers of health problems. A review addressing some of these

assumptions has recently been published [6]. The various bio-

physically accepted possibilities contributing to location de-

pendency and dowsing phenomena have been discussed ex-

tensively by the Munich group [8]

Sense a reduction in well-being [1, 48, 49]. Some people be-

come nervous, and various symptoms may arise. Retardation

of the immune system has several consequences. Firstly, if the

stress-inducing situation lasts for a long time, the incidence of

minor infections, such as colds, increases. Secondly, it is likely

that undesirable psychological effects are developed. Thirdly,

long-lasting exposure to geopathy may also prove to make the

organism more likely to acquire cancer.

A number of publications present data which underline the

potential risk of development of malignancies, such as

leukemia, triggered by some types of electromagnetic radia-

tion. Some authors speak of slightly elevated levels of relative

risk [50], others about highly significant increases in the inci-

dence of malignancies, cardiovascular deficiencies, immune

deficiency disorders, restless sleep, chronic pain, migraine/

headaches, sudden signs of physical aging, irritability and

chronic fatigue. Stress of various causes, including geopathy

and technical fields, has also been suggested to be a common

factor in cases of infertility and miscarriages, learning difficul-

ties, behavioral problems and neurological disabilities in children.

The experimental design used in our study allowed to examine

short-term effects only. Concluding a general validity for long-

term effects appears to be problematic. However, relevant im-

plications can be expected: Although acute stress may some-

times have stimulating effects on the immune system, certain

stress-inducing conditions may have negative effects, even if

present for only a short time. Long-term exposure to stress-in-

ducing factors usually causes more pronounced negative ef-

fects. It is widely known that in such cases of chronic stress the

immune system may be down-regulated. Whole cascades of

messenger factors are released, directly influencing the im-

mune system, the cardiovascular system, the nervous system

and the psychological status. In severe cases, cancer, cardiopa-

thy, autoimmune diseases and major psychopathies may devel-

op [41, 42, 44, 62, 71–73]. There is, however, considerable indi-

vidual variability in the immune response to stress. To a large

extent, this seems to be determined by the subject’s way of

dealing with stress [72]. Meditation and life style improve-

ments may help to cope with stress to a certain degree. Pro-

longed exposure to stressors may, however, sooner or later out-

weigh the person’s coping resources [72, 74]. Long-term expo-

sure to geopathy, e.g. sleeping in a geopathic area, may prove

particularly stressful. In such conditions, the organism would

not receive the full rest required for repair and regeneration.

In our study, a harmonizing/compensatory effect of the Ge-

owave device was detectable in almost all test persons, with

only very few exceptions. Provided that the short-term effect

detected in our study also applies to more long-term situations,

our observation may be very valuable: For instance in places

where people have diminished resistance and health, such as

hospitals, the device may prove to be beneficial for healing.

Geopathic/electromagnetic stress zones may influence the re-

lease of messenger substances (hormones, regulatory peptides,

cytokines) needed to maintain a balanced function of the im-

mune system. In this context, special attention has been paid

in the literature to melatonin which can be suppressed by stat-

ic and certain electromagnetic/magnetic fields. This effect is

well documented, and increased incidences of cancer may, in

part, be attributed to it. The full complexity of the problem is,

however, far from being understood, and there is discordant

literature [55, 60, 63–70]. One study related the melatonin de-

crease to geomagnetic disturbances in conjunction with artifi-

cial magnetic field exposure. Increased geomagnetic activity

was shown to cause significant reduction of nocturnal mela-

tonin excretion [63]. The additional data from the corona pro-

jection diagrams (beograms) obtained in our study (table 1)

showed that in many of the test persons the areas representa-

tive for the pineal organ and the lymphatic system exerted

below-average energy levels (indicating higher stress levels for

these particular systems). This may be understood as an indi-

rect complementary finding supporting the melatonin-sup-

pressing and immune-system retarding effects described by

others for stress situations.

It has been speculated that not only the central nervous sys-

tem (CNS) and the lymphatic system are likely to be affected

by geopathic stress. It is known that electromagnetic radiation

from various sources can also interfere with the peripheral

nervous system (PNS) and the diffuse neuroendocrine system

(DNES), thereby influencing glandular functions, the cardio-

vascular system, the gastrointestinal tract and the urogenital

system [42, 43, 75]. The GDV corona diagrams obtained in our

study indirectly support for this hypothesis: In more than 70%

of the test persons, weakened energy levels of the cardiovas-

cular system were observed, and weak points were also found

in other organ projections, such as the urogenital system or

the gastrointestinal tract.


The experimental study presented here is based on the as-

sumption that the areas at which the GDV measurements

took place corresponded to a geopathic zone and a more neu-

tral zone. Due to the lack of reliable geophysical equipment

that could prove these assumptions, we had decided to use

dowsing performed by highly reputed dowsers. It is undeni-

able that dowsing is being successfully used throughout the

world for numerous applications, e.g. by governmental depart-

ments, engineering companies, geologists, water companies,

armed forces, mining companies, building contractors, brew-

eries etc., as an efficient low-cost alternative to all other meth-

ods known today for the detection of water supplies or geo-

pathic stress zones. From the studies of the Munich group, it is

known that only a small proportion of dowsers is accurately

able to detect water reservoirs, faults, fissures and fractures

[8–11]. In our study, the 6 independent professional dowsers

presented their ‘muting’ results in drawn form, and those

6 maps showed sufficient agreement with each other on the

location of such zones in the laboratory.
